Meet the Team

  • Stephen Cousley

    MINISTER

    Stephen has been with us since September 2008 with his wife, Joanna and four children. Stephen was converted to Christ as a young teenager in his native northern Ireland where he grew up with a farming background. in 1990 Stephen entered the faith mission bible college in Edinburgh, Scotland. After graduating in 1992 he spent the next 16 years working as an evangelist for the faith mission, which concentrates on evangelising rural areas in Great Britain and Ireland.

  • Phil Evans

    ELDER/ SECRETARY

    Phil was a GP in Exeter and retired from general practice in 2018, after 31 years as a GP. He is now an academic undertaking medical research at the University of Exeter Medical School and has a number of national medical research roles. Within the church Phil is one of the Church Elders and the Church Secretary. He is also the leader of one of our Home Bible Study Groups. He is married to Viv; they have three grown-up sons.

  • Richard Turner

    DEACON/ TREASURER

    Richard has attended STBC since his family moved to Exeter from Surrey when he was three. Growing up in the church he attended the Boys Brigade and various youth groups, coming to faith in Christ through what he was taught and saw in the leaders of these groups. he is married to Hollie, who also grew up in the church. They enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities including walking, cycling, football and gardening. Richard is involved in several activities within the church including leading the worship group. He works in the Cytopathology Dept at the RD & E Hospital as a Senior biomedical Scientist.

  • Hannah Torpey Blaylock

    OPERATIONS MANAGER

    Hannah grew up near Birmingham and came to Exeter in 2019 after graduating from the University of Nottingham. She is married to Matt. Hannah started in her role at STBC in September 2022. She works part time as a midwife at the RD and E alongside her role in the church. Hannah is involved in Friday Club and serves on the Tech Team in her spare time.

  • Gary Curran

    DEACON

    Gary views himself as a Cornishman and is married to Fruz who is pseudo-Welsh. They moved to Exeter from Cornwall in 2004 and have two sons who serve the Lord. Gary is the church Designated Safeguarding Officer.

  • Ann Daniel

    DEACON

    Ann was born in Exeter and her parents attended STBC and brought her along. Ann attended Christian Endeavor and went through Girls' Brigade to the rank of Officer. Ann became a Christian at the age of eight but made a more adult committment at the age of 14. Ann worked at the school for the deaf for 42 years. Ann is involved in the paastoral care at STBC as well as the toddler group and creche.

  • Tom Darby-Clark

    DEACON

    Tom was born and raised in Exeter. Coming to Christ in his early teens, Tom started attending STBC in 2015 and has been involved in lots of different aspects of church life since. Tom lives with his Cornish wife Rhoda (m.2017) and Son Reuben (b.2022) in Cranbrook and both love STBC. Having had a career in Law and HR, Tom now works as a fundraiser for the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity.

  • Anne-Marie Immanuel

    FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND YOUTH CO-ORDINATOR

    Anne-Marie grew up in Exeter and came to faith as a teenager whilst part of the youth group here at STBC. Since then, Anne-Marie (or Anne) has been involved in various church ministries both here and abroad on overseas mission. Anne-Marie is perhaps best known for ever changing hair styles and colours, as well as being an avid fan of figure skating, Korean music and dramas.

  • Wendy Mckenna

    DEACON

    Wendy is married to Alistair and they have four (adult) children and six grandchildren. For the last 35 years Wendy has worked with her husband as a missionary in japan and as a pastor's wife in three different churches. She and her husband are now retired and living in Newton Poppleford.

  • Becky Shotter

    FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND YOUTH CO-ORDINATOR

    Becky grew up in sunny Dunstable and came to faith in her early teens. She came to Exeter for university and has stayed ever since. Becky and her husband David are always keen for board games, tennis, walks and beach trips. They have a daughter called Grace.
